Wilden Pulsation & Surge Dampeners

HD Process supplies Wilden pulsation and surge dampeners for industrial and hygienic process systems. The range includes SD Equalizer dampeners in metal and plastic constructions, alongside XSD HS Saniflo Hygienic Series dampeners with stainless steel wetted parts and Tri-Clamp connections.

Both ranges use compressed air and a diaphragm to reduce pressure fluctuations generated by reciprocating pumps, helping smooth liquid delivery between pump strokes.

Automatic Air Regulation for Steadier Discharge

As pump discharge pressure rises, liquid enters the dampener chamber and moves the diaphragm towards the air side. When pressure falls, compressed air moves the diaphragm back, returning liquid to the discharge line.

A shaft attached to the diaphragm controls air admission and release, automatically adjusting to changes in pump pressure and flow. This dampening action helps reduce pipe strain and pressure fluctuations reaching connected equipment.

SD Equalizer Industrial Dampeners

The SD range includes SD½, SD1, SD2 and SD3 models. Flow-through bodies and clamp-band construction provide access for maintenance, with material combinations suited to different process conditions.

  • Metal body options include aluminium and 316 stainless steel, with cast iron listed for SD1 and SD2.
  • Plastic options include polypropylene, PVDF and carbon-filled acetal, with PFA and PTFE available on specific models.
  • Diaphragm options include neoprene, Buna-N, EPDM, FKM and PTFE, depending on configuration.

Chemical suitability and temperature limits depend on the selected body and diaphragm materials.

XSD HS Saniflo Hygienic Dampeners

The XSD HS range uses stainless steel wetted parts and hygienic Tri-Clamp process connections. Models include XSD1½ HS, XSD2 HS and XSD3 HS, corresponding to nominal 1½-inch, 2-inch and 3-inch connections.

Sanitary diaphragm options include Buna, EPDM, Saniflex, Wil-Flex and PTFE constructions. The manual identifies FDA-compliant diaphragm materials and selected USP Class VI options. EHEDG certification requires the specified configuration and does not apply to every diaphragm option.

Cleaning Access and Hygienic CIP Capability

XSD HS dampeners can be dismantled for cleaning or cleaned in place using an appropriate CIP system. Cleaning effectiveness must be validated for the installation, and vertical orientation of the inlet and outlet ports allows drainage after cleaning.

CIP capability relates to the hygienic configuration; it should not be assumed for every industrial SD model. Process and cleaning liquids must be compatible with all wetted components.
