Mobile CIP Systems for Process Equipment
HD Process supplies mobile CIP systems for cleaning tanks, pipelines and compatible process equipment without dismantling the complete processing circuit. Mounted on a mobile frame, these systems can service different cleaning circuits within smaller food, beverage and other hygienic processing facilities.
Systems can be configured with one, two or three tanks for preparing, storing and recovering water or cleaning solutions. Manual and automatic control options are available according to the required cleaning sequence, level of process control and site operating requirements.
One, Two and Three-Tank CIP Configurations
The number of tanks is selected according to the required cleaning stages and whether water or chemical solutions will be recovered for reuse.
- One-tank systems for preparing and circulating a cleaning solution
- Two-tank systems with an additional tank for water recovery or another cleaning stage
- Three-tank systems for water, alkaline solution and acid solution
- Various tank capacities available to suit the cleaning circuit
A typical sequence may include an alkaline wash, intermediate rinse, acid wash and final water rinse. The actual stages, temperatures, chemical concentrations and cycle durations must be established for the product residue and equipment being cleaned.
Manual and Automatic Cleaning Cycle Control
Manual mobile CIP systems use manually operated valves and are suited to facilities that do not require a high level of automation. Automatic systems can use pneumatically actuated valves, a PLC and touchscreen interface to control the sequence and duration of each cleaning stage.
Depending on the selected configuration, automatic systems may provide multiple cleaning recipes and control or monitor key CIP parameters such as:
- Cleaning time
- Solution temperature
- Flow rate
- Chemical concentration
- Tank liquid level
Heating, Circulation and Chemical Dosing Equipment
Available equipment includes insulated solution tanks, electric heating or a plate heat exchanger with temperature control, circulation pumps and stainless steel piping and distribution manifolds. Larger multi-tank systems may also include a booster pump, recirculation pumps and acid or alkaline chemical dosing equipment.
Instrumentation options include conductivity sensors, temperature sensors, liquid-level sensors, flow detection, pressure indication and cleaning-process recording. The required instruments depend on the desired level of control and verification.
Sizing the CIP Flow and Cleaning Circuit
The CIP pump must provide sufficient flow and pressure for the pipework, tank cleaning device and complete return circuit. Pipe diameter has a significant effect on the required flow, with approximately 2 m/s commonly used as a target velocity for suitable pipeline cleaning duties. Tank spray balls or other cleaning devices must also be sized and positioned for the vessel geometry and required cleaning action.
To size a mobile CIP system, provide the equipment being cleaned, pipe sizes and lengths, tank volumes, cleaning devices, required cycle stages, available heating supply and preferred level of automation.
